Changi Airport is recognized as one of the best airports in the world and an icon landmark of Singapore. It has established itself as a major aviation hub in the Asia Pacific region with more than 33 million passengers passing through its gates annually.
A reliable Baggage Handling Systems is of utmost importance to meet with the demand. Pteris Global was awarded the task in 2002 to design, manufacture, install, test and commission a fully-automated Baggage Handling Systems for Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3. The project was successfully completed in December 2007 and the terminal was officially opened on 9 January 2008.
Among the systems supplied, belt conveyors measuring a total length of more than 6km were installed in the new terminal, with High Speed Diverters implemented for diversion of baggage. The bi-plow diverter has the capability to divert bags at a rate of 60 bags per minute. Together with these high-speed diverters the Baggage Handling Systems at Terminal 3 made possible inter-terminal transfers within an efficient three minutes, and provided the platform for the operation of larger and more sophisticated aircrafts.
