A contract was awarded to supply an ETV based cargo handling system to Plane Handling Ltd at their Cargo Point facility, London Heathrow Airport in June 2006.
The Cargo Point facility, which was opened in 1998 with Sir Richard Branson gracing the open ceremony, was used to handle cargo for Virgin Atlantic. A semi-automated cargo handling system was designed and the new system is able to handle containerised freight, including perishable items, comprises of a 15ft, 3-level ETV (Elevating Transfer Vehicle), 10ft storage positions (including cool rooms), 20ft Truck Docks, right-angle transfer decks, lowering workstations and powered roller decks.
The system was completed within eight months and handed over to Plane Handling Ltd in February 2009.
